Training for the Real World

Training Built Around Your Organization

No two organizations face exactly the same challenges. LETA works with organizations to develop practical training that reflects the environments, authorities, equipment and interactions their personnel encounter in the field.

Programs can combine classroom instruction, multimedia learning, hands-on skill development, and reality-based training scenarios with role players.

Practical training. Operationally relevant. Built for the real world.

Tactical Communication & Crisis Intervention

Develop practical communication strategies for challenging interactions, crisis situations and conflict resolution.

Situational Awareness • Edged Weapons • Substance Use

Build awareness of behavioural indicators, emerging risks and environmental factors that can affect personnel safety.

Self-Defence • Control • Handcuffing

Develop practical physical skills focused on control, safety, restraint and duty of care.

OC Spray • Baton

Professional instruction addressing authorized force options, safety considerations and responsible application.

Who We Train

LETA provides professional training for organizations whose personnel interact with the public, exercise enforcement responsibilities, protect people or property, or work in environments where conflict and safety concerns may arise.

Training can be adapted to the authorities, responsibilities, operational environment and experience of your personnel.

Training Grounded in Real-World Experience

LETA brings together experienced instructors and subject-matter experts with backgrounds in law enforcement, public safety, coaching and professional instruction.

Training combines classroom learning with practical skill development, role-playing and reality-based scenarios designed to help participants apply what they learn in realistic environments.

Law-enforcement and public-safety experience informs LETA’s practical approach to training.

Training can be adapted around the operational requirements and responsibilities of your organization.

Classroom learning is reinforced through hands-on exercises, with role-players and reality-based scenarios.

Training is supported by dedicated classroom and practical training environments at LETA’s Burnaby headquarters.

“In healthcare security, we hope our officers never have to face a violent encounter involving a weapon, but we have a responsibility to ensure they are prepared if that day comes. Mark and the team at LETA have played an important role in helping us meet that responsibility. Their expertise, generosity, and willingness to share lessons learned through years of frontline experience have made a lasting impression on our organization. The training is practical, engaging, and highly relevant, but what we value most is the genuine care they show for the people they train. Their partnership has strengthened the confidence and readiness of our officers, and we are proud to work alongside them.”

A Facility Designed for Practical Training

LETA’s Burnaby headquarters provides dedicated space for classroom instruction, practical skill development and reality-based training scenarios.

At the centre of the facility is a purpose-built sprung training floor designed to reduce impact during throws, takedowns and other practical training exercises.

Built From the Ground Up

The training floor incorporates steel springs positioned approximately every square foot beneath two layers of birch plywood and two-inch rollout mats, creating a surface designed to absorb impact during intensive practical training.

Police Judo – Where LETA Began

LETA’s roots are in Police Judo, a practical judo-based training system developed by law-enforcement professionals with an emphasis on control, safety and duty of care.

The philosophy at the centre of Police Judo is simple: Take Care of Your Partner. That principle continues to influence LETA’s broader approach to professional training today.

Police Judo remains an important part of LETA, providing participants with practical training grounded in judo, professional instruction and the principle of taking care of your partner.
